Enjoy working outside? Are you looking for a stable summer job? The City of Littleton is seeking energetic individuals interested in gaining great municipal experience as a Grounds Maintenance Worker or Utilities Operator!

Work schedule:

  • Must be able to work 40 hours per week. 
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 12 weeks.
  • The position lasts a maximum of 24 weeks. 

Starting Salary:
New Seasonal Employee: $15.00 per hour
Returning Seasonal Employee: $15.50 per hour

Essential Duties & Reponsibilities

GROUNDS MAINTENANCE:

  • Maintains planted and landscaped outdoor areas of City-owned properties in a healthy and attractive condition including mowing, weeding, planting, removing litter, aerating, fertilizing and other related duties. 
  • Performs other assignments and projects as required. 
UTILITIES OPERATOR:
  • Assists regular full-time utility workers by performing skilled work in the operation of vehicles and equipment and unskilled laboring work to maintain and repair sanitary sewer collection and storm drainage utility systems.
  • The work involves the performance of duties related to all aspects of the repair and maintenance of sanitary sewer collection and storm drainage utility systems.
  • Performs other assignments and projects as required. 

Education, Formal Training & Experience

  • Minimum age of 18
  • Requires possession of a valid Colorado driver's license. 
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug screen and background check. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

GROUNDS MAINTENANCE: 

  • Basic knowledge of the operation and maintenance to safely operate the following power equipment and vehicles: riding lawn mowers, walk behind mowers, pickup truck with utility trailers and string trimmers.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical work which involves lifting and handling objects frequently which weigh up to 80 pounds from ground to waist height; ability to walk for 3-8 hours per day; ability to frequently handle miscellaneous maintenance equipment and grass clippings weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally pushing riding mowers.
  • Requires ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, feel, talk, hear voices, equipment engines, approaching traffic, near and/far visual acuity, depth perception, and color vision to perform essential functions of the position.
  • Basic knowledge of traffic safety precautions.
  • Basic knowledge to safely operate the following equipment and vehicles: pickup truck with mounted water tank, dump truck with hydraulic bed; hand shovels, backpack weed sprayer, rototiller, rakes, pick axes. Ability to operate tree chipper and gasoline engine-powered chain saw following instruction and on-the-job training.
  • Basic knowledge of or the ability to learn the principles of landscape, landscape construction and maintenance; tree and shrub planting, watering, care, and pruning.
  • Basic knowledge of flower planting and care, weed identification, and control, soil preparation, and fertilization.
  • Ability to perform work safely in close proximity to vehicle traffic. Basic knowledge of traffic safety precautions.
  • Ability to understand verbal information and instruction.
UTILITIES OPERATOR: 
  • Ability to perform work safely in close proximity to vehicle traffic. Basic knowledge of traffic safety precautions.
  • Requires basic knowledge of the principles of hydraulics and mechanics in the operation and maintenance of assigned vehicles and equipment. 
  • Requires basic knowledge of the principles and practices of light, medium and heavy-duty vehicle and equipment operation and maintenance. 
  • Requires basic mechanical aptitude and knowledge of the principles and practices of hand and power tool operation.
  • Requires basic knowledge of record keeping and work log preparation and the ability to legibly write to create and maintain records, work activity logs, and related documents.
  • Requires ability to stand, walk and sit for long periods of time.
  • Requires physical activities including lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects weighing up to 80 pounds: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching. The ability to communicate so others can comprehend the communication, sight, and ability to hear.
  • Ability to performed duties outdoors in adverse weather conditions; tolerate exposure to noise exposure up to 130 decibels; exposure to fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, pollens, molds insects, rodents; and mechanical and electrical hazards.
