This full-time position is benefits eligible.

 

The City of Littleton has a great opportunity for an Accountant.  The accountants are responsible for a wide range of accounting duties, from simple to complex.  They include balancing and reconciling a variety of accounts, making journal entries, and processing financial and budget information. 

 

The successful candidate will perform duties using sound judgment and decision making.  They will also be assisting with daily operations during the design and implementation of a new ERP. 

 

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and be passionate about the little details.  The ability to zoom in and find small issues will serve the candidate well in this role, and the ideal candidate will understand how those little details fit into and help create the Big Picture.   This opportunity offers an exciting chance to help build out the financial backbone of the new ERP for the City of Littleton.

The successful candidate will be eligible for benefits, including retirement.  This is a "limited duration" position, funded with federal dollars that will expire on December 31, 2024. 

 

Appointments may be made at the Accounting I, II or Senior level depending on qualifications, department needs, and budget availability at the time of hire. Levels of pay and minimum qualifications are listed below:

 

 

Accountant I: Starting pay at $60,467 annually

Salary Range: $ 48,517- $72,777

 

Accountant II: Starting pay at $67,581 annually.

Salary Range: $55,132-$81,198

 

Senior Accountant:  Starting pay at $83,319 annually

Salary Range: $66,665 - $99,982

 

This full-time position is exempt per FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.

 

Work Schedule: This is a full-time position and will work a hybrid schedule with some days teleworking and some days working in person at the office. 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Verifies and processes accounting data, completes and maintains general ledger accounts and funds
  • Analyzes financial information to prepare reports, statements and schedules
  • Completes and formats reports for use in financial analysis
  • Reconciles and analyzes fund and account activity
  • Completes payroll import journal entries
  • Prepares and/or reviews bank reconciliations and related journal entries
  • Prepares and analyzes reports and projections for management review
  • Assists with preparing periodic financial statements for all funds
  • Completes audit workpapers for external auditor
  • Assists with preparing fund financial statements for the comprehensive annual financial report (ACFR)
  • Independently identifies, researches, and resolves problems, develops controls and provides recommendations to improve the accounting processes
  • Prepares and completes special projects and reports. assists in developing work goals and objectives
  • Prioritizes work to meet goals and objectives for self and others
  • Interprets and implements authoritative pronouncements
  • Assist with the ERP implementation and related integrated systems as needed
  • Communicates and resolves related issues
  • Performs additional duties as assigned
  • May serve as an emergency worker

Minimum Qualifications

ACCOUNTANT I

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a directly related field with a major in accounting, and
  • Minimum of one (1) year of progressively responsible accounting experience in a large organization. or
  • An equivalent combination of formal education, training and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position may be considered.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check. 

 

 

ACCOUNTANT II

 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a directly related field with a major in accounting, and
  • Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible accounting experience in a large organization. or
  • An equivalent combination of formal education, training and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position may be considered.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

 

 

SENIOR ACCOUNTANT: 

 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a directly related field with a major in accounting. and
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible accounting experience in a large organization. or
  • An equivalent combination of formal education, training and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position may be considered.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

ACCOUNTANT I: 

  • Government accounting

 

ACCOUNTANT II: 

  • Government accounting 

 

SENIOR ACCOUNTANT: 

  • 5+ years of experience 
  • CPA

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting, GAAP and GASB.
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities to effectively deal with a variety of individuals within and outside the organization using effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to understand and explain simple to complex accounting standards to internal and external customers.
  • Requires skills and abilities that include analyzing data, breaking down problems, identifying relationships between issues, making complex plans. and displaying high attention to detail with assigned projects and tasks.
  • Skills and abilities that involve written and verbal communication techniques for report writing, correspondence, providing customer service, giving presentations, directions, or feedback.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

 

  • Work is performed indoors in a standard office environment.
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying of files or other objects weighing up to 25 pounds with or without assistance.
